Ohio High School Commissioner Jerry Snodgrass announced the mandated no contact order has been extended through May 1. This is to assist the Governor’s “stay at home order”, to prohibit coaches from privately meeting with student-athletes AND to put all schools on an equal level relative to future competitive opportunities. The non-contact regulation was never intended to discourage or prohibit electronic communication with student-athletes. For the mental well-being of student-athletes it is actually encouraged, but is NOT intended for coaches to encourage any form of group gatherings or instruction.
Student-athletes: One of the questions that is being asked is how will eligibility be determined for fall sports. As you know the grading period that determines fall sports eligibility is the fourth nine weeks prior to the start of the fall season. Our District has made the decision to provide all high school students with on-line lessons and laptops to complete the lessons (and hard copies of lessons upon request). These assignments will be graded by the teachers and you will receive a report card with fourth nine week grades. Therefore, we will be using the fourth nine weeks grades (not the third nine week’s grades as some other school districts may use) to determine fall eligibility for all WGH student-athletes.
NOTE: IF YOU HAVE NOT STARTED ANY OF YOUR FOURTH GRADING PERIOD ASSIGNMENTS IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU BEGIN THEM IMMEDIATELY. IF YOU CANNOT COMPLETE YOUR LESSONS DUE TO A LACK OF A COMPUTER YOU NEED TO CONTACT THE SCHOOL AT 330.841.2316 ASAP.ALSO, ALL OF THE TEACHERS ARE AVAILABLE TO CONTACT, OR ASSIST YOU, VIA EMAIL
I understand how difficult this time on our student-athletes, BUT FOR THE GOOD OF MANKIND PLEASE practice social distancing and follow best practices.
STAY SAFE AND GO RAIDERS!
